The Washington County Johnson City (WCJC) Animal Shelter is known for providing high quality care to animals in need of homes. The Dog Kennel Technician is a part-time, on-site position and is responsible for providing dogs with a clean living space.

WCJC Animal Shelter strives to be a safe place for dogs and cats who are lost, surrendered, neglected, or mistreated, and who deserve a chance with a loving family of their very own. WCJC Animal Shelter places all animals who can humanely and safely be adopted into a loving home. An incredibly dedicated staff, generous volunteers, and donors ensure every animal is given all the care and resources available to help them thrive in a new forever home. WCJC Animal Shelter serves over 3,000 animals per year with 40 employees and 20 long-time volunteers.
JOB DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS
- Clean and sanitize kennels and remove any animal waste
- Provide clean bedding
- Provide fresh, clean water
- Wash and sanitize dog bowls
- Wash, dry and fold dog laundry
- Keep drains and walkways clean
- Clean hallway and meet and greet rooms
- Monitor outdoor fields, including swimming pools and water buckets
- Watch for signs of animal illness and report to supervisor
- Monitor dog behavior and report to supervisor
- Provide dog enrichment, such as toys, training and socialization
- Follow shelter policies and procedures
- Collaborate with team to evaluate and improve shelter standards
- Participate in staff meetings and trainings
- Provide reports to supervisor, as requested
- Contribute to a positive work environment
- Crosstrain in areas of the shelter, as appropriate
- Assist in onboarding and training new employees and volunteers
- Participate with shelter events, as assigned
- Assist with additional tasks, as assigned
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Part-time employment, average of 20 hours per week
- 5-hour shifts, 8am – 1pm
- 100% on site, indoor/outdoor
- No travel required
- Lifting requirements are up to 50 lbs
