The Washington County Johnson City (WCJC) Animal Shelter is known for providing high quality care to animals in need of homes. The Adoption Specialist is a part-time, on-site position and is responsible for aiding customers with pet adoptions.

The WCJC Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal shelter located in Johnson City, TN. WCJC Animal Shelter strives to be a safe place for dogs and cats who are lost, surrendered, neglected or mistreated, and who deserve a chance with a loving family of their very own. WCJC Animal Shelter places all animals who can humanely and safely be adopted into a loving home. An incredibly dedicated staff, generous volunteers, and donors ensure every animal is given all the care and resources available to help them thrive in a new forever home. WCJC Animal Shelter serves over 3,000 animals per year with 40 employees and 20 long-time volunteers.

 

JOB DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Greet customers and donors as they enter the Adoption Center
  • Retrieve dogs and cats for visits in meet and greet rooms
  • Provide education and awareness to potential adopters
  • Assist customers with finding an animal that is a good fit for their family
  • Participate in adoption application review
  • Document animal and adopter information in software program
  • Enter adoptions in ASM
  • File Intake paperwork
  • Assist customers with carrying in donations, providing shelter directions, and retail purchases
  • Collect, log, and store in-kind donations
  • Provide high level of service to customers and donors, in-person and over the phone
  • Return voicemails and texts messages in a timely manner
  • Assist with laundry
  • Maintain cleanliness in adoption center, including meet and greet rooms and bathrooms
  • Follow shelter policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with team to evaluate and improve shelter standards
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide reports to supervisor, as requested
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Crosstrain in areas of the shelter, as appropriate
  • Assist in onboarding and training new employees and volunteers
  • Participate with shelter events, as assigned
  • Assist with additional tasks, as assigned

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • part-time employment, average of 20 hours per week
  • 5 hour shifts, 1 – 6pm
  • Off-site and travel are less than 10%
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs
  • Job will consist of standing, walking, bending and sitting

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma
  • Experience with animals
  • Customer service experience
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Ability to work basic computer applications as well as various software programs
  • Punctual
  • Reliable
  • Positive attitude
