The Washington County Johnson City (WCJC) Animal Shelter is known for providing high quality care to animals in need of homes. The Intake Coordinator will be in a part-time, on-site position that focuses on receiving new animals surrendered to the shelter.

 

ABOUT THE COMPANY

The WCJC Animal Shelter is a non-profit animal shelter located in Johnson City, TN. WCJC Animal Shelter strives to be a safe place for dogs and cats who are lost, surrendered, neglected, or mistreated, and who deserve a chance with a loving family of their very own. WCJC Animal Shelter places all animals who can humanely and safely be adopted into a loving home. An incredibly dedicated staff, generous volunteers, and donors ensure every animal is given all the care and resources available to help them thrive in a new forever home. WCJC Animal Shelter serves over 3,000 animals a year with 40 employees and volunteers.

 

JOB DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Receive animal control calls and complaints relating to dogs, cats and other animals
  • Work closely with Animal Control Officers and local first responders
  • Complete the intake process for new animals surrendered to the shelter
  • Ensure animals receive appropriate vaccines upon entry
  • Evaluate new animal medical and adoption needs
  • Document animal control calls and new animal intake into database
  • Assist with providing food through the Food Bank
  • Assist with planning next steps for animals after intake
  • Participate in adoption reviews, as needed
  • Follow shelter policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the team to evaluate and improve shelter standards
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings
  • Provide reports to leadership, as requested
  • Contribute to a positive work environment
  • Crosstrain in areas of the shelter, as appropriate
  • Participate with shelter events, as appropriate
  • Provide a high level of customer service when in-person and answering the phone
  • Assist with additional tasks, as assigned

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Part-time employment, less than 30 hours per week
  • 90% on-site, 10% off-site at events or mall, etc
  • Travel requirements – none
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs
  • Job is approximately 50% walking/standing and 50% sitting

  • High school diploma
  • Experience working with animals
  • Customer service experience
  • Work independently and as a part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong ability to prioritize needs
  • Solid communication skills
  • Ability to work with various populations and education levels
  • Punctual and dependable
